Cabral Aziza Bigman-Galimore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She holds affiliations with the Center for Digital Agriculture, the National Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA), and the Center for Social & Behavioral Science. Her research focuses on communication about health, risk, and inequality, particularly examining how messages about comparative risk and inequality influence health and communication-related behaviors.
Bigman-Galimore holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania (2011 and 2008, respectively), and a B.A. from Oberlin College (2000). She teaches courses such as Risk Communication (CMN 396), Race and the Mass Media (CMN 429), and Causality in Communication Research (CMN 529).
Her research interests span communication and health equity, health communication, risk communication, and media effects. Recent work explores topics like public health outreach during the pandemic, organ donation campaigns for teenagers, and digital documentation’s role in racial discourse. Her scholarship bridges communication theory with practical public health interventions, emphasizing equitable messaging strategies.
