CHAN Sau Han Edith is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at the National University of Singapore (NUS). She specializes in chemical biology, coordination chemistry, and innovative teaching methodologies. Her roles include Principal Investigator for the NUS Learning Innovation Fund’s blended learning initiative (2017–2018), SEP Coordinator (2008–2014 and ongoing), and facilitator for chemistry teacher workshops. She has served as a judge for major science competitions like the Singapore Science & Engineering Fair and contributes to academic governance as Deputy Chair of the Department Student Life Committee (2017–2021).
Her research focuses on advancing second-row transition metal chemistry, particularly ruthenium complexes, with a sustainable micro-scale approach to enhance undergraduate and postgraduate practical learning. She integrates modern tools like LumiNUS-Quiz for online laboratory assessments and develops teaching strategies to improve student engagement. Key contributions include optimizing ruthenium phosphine complex synthesis for cost-effective educational use, featured in undergraduate courses CM3191 and CM5192.
Teaching responsibilities in AY 2024/2025 include courses on inorganic chemistry, biomolecules, and capstone projects. Her educational research bridges medicinal inorganic chemistry with practical pedagogy, emphasizing hands-on experimentation and assessment innovation. She actively organizes conferences (e.g., Asian Biological Inorganic Chemistry Conference 2018) and contributes to interdisciplinary initiatives in green chemistry and sustainable education.
