Assoc. Prof. Dr. CAN ALI AĞCA is an Associate Professor at Bingöl University's Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics. His research focuses on cancer biology, oxidative stress mechanisms, apoptosis regulation, and the application of natural compounds (e.g., lycopene, curcumin, C60 fullerene) in cancer therapy and tissue protection. He has held academic positions since 2013, including leading projects funded by TÜBİTAK and BAP grants.
Education:
- PhD in Molecular Biology (Fırat University, 2013)
- Postdoc at University College London Cancer Institute (2014-2015)
Research Interests: His work explores anticancer agents' mechanisms, drug combinations, nanoparticle-mediated therapies, and the molecular pathways (e.g., NF-κB, Nrf2/HO-1, PTEN/AKT/mTOR) regulating apoptosis, autophagy, and inflammation. He investigates environmental toxins' effects on reproductive and nervous systems using animal models.
Key Projects:
- Leading the TÜBİTAK-funded project on TIGAR protein's role in lung cancer therapy (2016-2017)
- Investigating Eremurus spectabilis extracts' anticancer properties (2013-2015)
Teaching: Recently taught courses like Genetic Engineering and Cancer Biology to Molecular Biology and Genetics students.
