Dr. C.H. Harris is an Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Amsterdam, affiliated with the Moving Matters research group. She holds a Ph.D. from the CUNY Graduate Center (2009) and specializes in aviation, infrastructures, globalization in Asia, and borderland dynamics. Her work examines aeromobilities, geopolitical frameworks, and the socio-economic impacts of transportation systems.
Research interests include Tibetan trade, cross-border movements, and the intersection of infrastructure with political economy. She co-directs the Asian Borderlands Conference series and has led projects on Nepali air traffic management and aviation labor in Asia. Her book Geographical Diversions: Tibetan Trade, Global Transactions (2013) received the ICAS Best Book in Social Sciences award.
Recent projects involve collaborations with the UvA’s Centre for Urban Studies and SSHR-funded studies on aeromobilities and labor mobilization. She teaches courses in globalization, research methods, and Asian Studies, balancing academia with advocacy for open-access publishing and critical social science in Nepal.
