C. Matthew Snipp is the Burnet C. and Mildred Finley Wohlford Professor in the School of Humanities and Sciences at Stanford University, serving as Vice Provost for Faculty Development, Diversity and Engagement. He holds appointments in the Department of Sociology and directs the Institute for Research in the Social Science's Secure Data Center. Previously, he was Professor of Sociology at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and held research fellowships at the U.S. Bureau of the Census and Center for Advanced Study in the Behavioral Sciences.
He earned his Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 1981.
Research Focus: Snipp's work centers on racial and ethnic minorities, with emphasis on:
- Methodologies for racial measurement in census data
- Socioeconomic disparities affecting American ethnic minorities
- Demographic analysis of indigenous populations
- American Indian education systems
- Poverty dynamics and economic development in minority communities
