C.-M. Michael Wong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Ottawa, where he joined in January 2023. He is an active member of the uOttawa Geometry and Topology Group and organizes the Geometry and Topology Seminar. Prior to his appointment at Ottawa, he held postdoctoral positions at Louisiana State University (2017-2020, 2022) and Dartmouth College (2020-2022).
Wong received his AB from Princeton University in 2012 and his PhD from Columbia University in 2017 under the supervision of Peter S. Ozsváth and Robert Lipshitz. His doctoral dissertation concerned unoriented skein relations in knot Floer homology and tangle Floer homology.
Wong's research focuses on low-dimensional topology, particularly the study of cobordisms of 3-manifolds, knots, links, and tangles. He employs various versions of Floer homology and related invariants as his primary tools, with additional work on connections between Floer theory and contact geometry, and placing Floer theory in the context of categorification. His publications demonstrate expertise in skein relations, Lagrangian cobordisms, GRID invariants, and the application of Floer theories to knot detection and classification.

Wong has supervised numerous graduate students including Mitchell Jubeir, Noah Schwartz, and Zachary Winkeler, as well as undergraduate researchers like Brandon Roberts. He co-founded the Summer Hybrid Undergraduate Research (SHUR) program at Dartmouth focused on computational approaches to Legendrian knots. His research has been consistently supported by competitive grants from major funding agencies, and he actively organizes academic seminars including the current uOttawa Geometry and Topology Seminar.
Wong is an integral member of the uOttawa Geometry and Topology Group, collaborating with colleagues working in algebraic topology, category theory, and symplectic geometry. He maintains an active international research profile with frequent seminar presentations and conference talks across North America, Asia, and Europe.
