Professor Bakar's research centers on critical junctures of late Ottoman and early Republican history, with primary focus on World War I, World War II, the Armenian Question, and the Armistice Period. His methodology emphasizes analysis of press coverage, diplomatic correspondence, and socio-economic conditions during wartime. Key themes include Turkish-German relations, refugee movements (particularly White Russians), public health crises in Istanbul, and wartime resource management, revealing nuanced perspectives on state policies and societal resilience.
His 45+ publications demonstrate consistent scholarly output, with recent works examining realpolitik in neutral-state diplomacy, typhus epidemics during WWII, and bread rationing systems. These studies collectively illuminate how international conflicts permeated Ottoman/Turkish domestic spheres through press narratives, refugee influxes, and public health challenges.
No scientific awards are documented in available sources.
Professor Bakar has supervised 60 thesis projects according to institutional metrics, mentoring graduate researchers in Ottoman-Turkish historiography. His work relies on Marmara University's archival resources and research infrastructure without mention of external grant funding.
