Prof. Dr. Béla Gipp is a Full Professor of Scientific Information Analytics at the University of Göttingen and Scientific Director of the State and University Library (SUB). His research focuses on Information Science, Data Science, and AI applications in libraries, including NLP, blockchain, and media bias detection. He leads the GippLab, which develops AI tools for information retrieval and automation. Previously, he held professorships at the University of Wuppertal and University of Konstanz, and conducted postdoctoral research at UC Berkeley and the National Institute of Informatics in Tokyo.
Education: Ph.D. (summa cum laude) in Computer Science from Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg (2013), with postdoc stints at UC Berkeley (2013–2015) and NII Tokyo (2014–2015). Notable early achievements include winning Jugend Forscht three times and founding startups SciPlore and Docear.
Research emphasizes interdisciplinary projects like blockchain-based timestamping (OriginStamp AG), AI-driven plagiarism detection, and library automation. He has secured over €5M in third-party funding and holds an h-index of ~50. Active in professional roles including DFG initiatives and DAAD advisory boards.
