Bård Lahn is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Centre for Technology, Innovation and Culture (TIK), University of Oslo. His research explores intersections of democracy, justice, climate change, and fossil fuel extraction, with a focus on the role of scientific expertise in political processes, the boundaries between economic and political rationalities, and how technologies of future-anticipation shape fossil fuel governance. He is currently investigating Norwegian oil policy from the 1970s to today, particularly how oil extraction and financial valuation co-evolve.
Lahn contributes to the "Fossil Free Futures" project at Stockholm University and the ACCELZ project at UiO’s Department of Political Science. He teaches the bachelor course TIK2101 From Science to Action: Knowledge and Politics for Sustainability and master’s courses in Science and Technology Studies (STS) and the politics of nature. He supervises master’s students on topics related to STS, climate politics, and democratic participation.
His recent publications analyze fossil fuel governance, climate scenario-making, and the politics of quantification. He is part of the Oil and Society research network and the STS group at UiO, integrating sociological, historical, and geopolitical perspectives into his work.
