Dr. Buwen Dong is a Principal Research Fellow in Climate Science at the National Centre for Atmospheric Science (NCAS)-Climate, based in the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. His research focuses on coupled ocean-atmosphere interactions, Atlantic climate variability, aerosol impacts on regional climate, Asian monsoon dynamics, and paleoclimate modeling. He has contributed to major projects like AMARELO and LOTUS, analyzing climate variability and its predictability.
Research interests include detecting anthropogenic influences on extreme weather events, such as heatwaves and precipitation patterns in China and Europe. He supervises postdoctoral researchers and PhD students, including notable advisees like Dr. Fangxing Tian and Dr. Paul-Arthur Monerie. Dr. Dong has authored over 129 publications, emphasizing climate modeling, attribution studies, and climate system interactions.
His work bridges observational analysis and climate model simulations, with a focus on decadal climate variability and the drivers of recent climate trends. He serves as an editor for Advances in Atmospheric Sciences and Atmospheric and Oceanic Science Letters.
