Burcu Baykan is an Assistant Professor at Bilkent University’s Faculty of Art, Design, and Architecture, Department of Communication and Design. She holds a Ph.D. in Digital Arts and Humanities from Trinity College Dublin (2017), an M.A. in Media and Visual Studies (2010), and a B.F.A. in Graphic Design (2008) from Bilkent University.

Her research focuses on posthuman and more-than-human approaches to the body and subjectivity, examining intersections with technology, ecology, gender, and socio-political frameworks. She draws on Gilles Deleuze, Félix Guattari, Donna Haraway, and Rosi Braidotti to analyze visual arts, film, and bio-art.
Her publications and conference presentations span Deleuzean philosophy, posthumanism, eco-criticism, and media theory, with works in Edinburgh University Press, Lexington Books, and CINEJ: Cinema Journal. She supervises M.A. theses on topics like Middle Eastern women’s filmmaking and urban animal cohabitation.
Dr. Baykan contributes to initiatives such as the New Media Open Lab and PASO Film Festival, blending academic research with practical artistic exploration.
