Dr. Bryan M. Hill is an Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry at Brandon University, serving concurrently as Chair of the Department and member of the Faculty of Graduate Studies since 2013. He holds a Ph.D. in Synthetic Organic Chemistry (Université de Sherbrooke, 2001) and a B.Sc. (Honors) from the University of Victoria (1995). His research focuses on molecular architecture and synthetic organic chemistry, particularly the design of sulfonamide-based compounds for biomedical applications. Collaborations with colleagues like Drs. Mark Berry, Adrian Weber, and others emphasize drug discovery and functional group chemistry.
Teaching responsibilities include Organic Chemistry I/II, Applied Organic Spectroscopy, and Natural Product Synthesis. Undergraduate research projects supervised by Dr. Hill have explored liquid crystal derivatives, sulfonamide synthesis, and peptide analogs. His work bridges traditional organic synthesis with modern medicinal chemistry, targeting enzyme inhibition and bioactive molecule development. Active in collaborative research, he has mentored numerous students through advanced research courses and work-study programs.
Publications span over two decades, highlighting contributions to cyclization reactions, polycyclic compound synthesis, and phosphotyrosine mimicry for enzyme modulation. Research outputs reflect a commitment to both foundational organic chemistry and applied biomedical applications.
