Bryan Kuhr

Bryan Kuhr is an Assistant Professor of Engineering at Sweet Briar College, where he joined in Fall 2020. He holds a B.S. in Materials Science & Engineering from Michigan State University and a Ph.D. from Virginia Tech in the same field. His research focuses on nano-scale deformation mechanisms in metals, materials simulation, and microstructure-property relationships. He currently chairs the Systems and Information Engineering and Design Symposium (SIEDS), a student-focused annual conference. Dr. Kuhr also serves as the Faculty Athletics Representative and chairs the Student Advancement Committee overseeing the Grant for Engaged Learning program.

His teaching responsibilities include courses such as Intro to Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Mechatronics, and Capstone Design. His research trends emphasize atomistic simulations of deformation processes, grain boundary interactions, and stress localization in metallic systems. He has contributed to advancements in understanding hydrogen effects on materials and the development of computational models for contact mechanics in granular systems.
