Bruno Studer is a Professor of Computer Science and Head of the Department of Applied Future Technologies at the University of Applied Sciences of the Grisons (FHGR), where he also serves as a member of the university executive board. His department oversees key academic programs including Artificial Intelligence in Software Engineering, Computational and Data Science, Mobile Robotics, Photonics, Information Science, and the Master of Science in Engineering (MSE).
He holds a doctorate in Computer Science from the University of Zurich (1995) and a diploma in Electrical Engineering/Information Technology from ETH Zurich. His professional background includes software engineering and project management at Alcatel Zurich before transitioning into academia.

His expertise spans course development, IT security, databases, educational management, and international accreditation (ASIIN). He has authored three specialist books and numerous articles in his fields. Under his leadership since 2007, the department has launched 10 new degree programs and grown student enrollment from 230 to 991.
Bruno Studer is set to retire on May 16, 2025. He will be succeeded on an interim basis by Heiko Roelke. His work emphasizes the principle that 'data is the oil of the 21st century,' focusing on data organization, analysis, and AI-driven evaluation.
He actively supervises interdisciplinary research projects and contributes to shaping national and international academic standards through accreditation activities.
Bruno Studer is involved in several labs and research centers, particularly the DAViS Center for Data Analytics, Visualization and Simulation, which supports applied research in AI, simulation, and data science. His department also leads innovation in photonics, robotics, AR/VR, and 3D imaging through dedicated labs such as the Photonics Lab, Robotics Lab, and Digi Lab.
