Bruno Massicotte is a Full Professor in the Department of Civil, Geological and Mining Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. He holds a B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Université Laval, and a Ph.D. from the University of Alberta. Since joining Polytechnique in 1990 after working at Quebec's Ministry of Transport, he has led research combining experimental and analytical approaches to bridge design, concrete structures, and seismic retrofitting.
His research focuses on:
- Advanced analysis of concrete structures using finite element methods
- Seismic performance and retrofitting of bridges
- Structural applications of fiber-reinforced concrete
- Reliability assessment of aging infrastructure
- Accelerated bridge construction techniques
Recent publications demonstrate strong emphasis on practical applications for infrastructure resilience, particularly in seismic zones and for aging bridges, using materials like UHPFRC.
Awards and distinctions:
- Fellow of the American Concrete Institute (2006)
- Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (2005)
He has supervised 69 graduate students (11 PhD, 58 Master's) and leads two research groups:
- Groupe de recherche en génie des structures (GRS)
- Centre de recherche sur les infrastructures en béton (CRIB)
