Bruce Levingston is the Chancellor's Honors College Artist-in-Residence and holder of the Lester Glenn Fant Chair at the Sally McDonnell Barksdale Honors College, University of Mississippi. A globally acclaimed concert pianist and recording artist, he has performed at prestigious venues like Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and the Royal Opera House. His work emphasizes classical and contemporary music, with over 25 million streams on major platforms.
Education: B.A. Humanities (University of Texas at Austin, 1983); M.A. Music Performance (CUNY Queens College, 1986). Additional studies at the Royal Conservatory of Toronto and Aspen Music Festival.
Research interests include innovative programming, interpretation of living composers’ works, and cultural advocacy. Founder of Premiere Commission, a nonprofit supporting living composers. Collaborated with institutions like the MoMA and composers Philip Glass, Timo Andres, and Missy Mazzoli.
Notable awards include the 2006 Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts and induction into the Mississippi Musicians Hall of Fame (2017). Advocacy work includes human/animal rights initiatives and civil rights-related performances.
