Professor Bruce Burton is the Chair of Corporate Governance in the School of Business at the University of Dundee. He holds a PhD from the University of Dundee and has held academic positions at the University of Bath (1997–1999) before joining Dundee in 1999 as Lecturer in Finance, progressing to Senior Lecturer (2003–2013) and Professor of Finance (2013–present). His research focuses on corporate governance failures in developing countries, qualitative research in financial markets, and renewable energy crowdfunding.

His research expertise includes corporate governance frameworks, qualitative methodologies in financial markets, and institutional theories. He leads the CrowdfundRES project (€2m EU Horizon 2020 grant), exploring crowdfunding for renewable energy in Europe. He founded the Qualitative Research in Financial Markets journal and directs the Centre for Qualitative Research in Finance.
Teaching spans over 20 modules in finance at all levels, including corporate governance and behavioral finance. He has supervised over 15 doctoral students to completion, with 8 current students. His work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in renewable energy and sustainable finance.
