Bruce Broster is an Honorary Research Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences at the University of New Brunswick (UNB). His research focuses on applied geology, engineering geology, and glacial geology, with a particular emphasis on buried valleys, saline intrusion, and the geological evolution of the Saint John River and Grand Lake. He has contributed to studies on urban soil geochemistry, wetland delineation, and bathymetric research in the Bay of Fundy.
Broster holds a PhD in Earth Sciences and has supervised 20 graduate students, guiding them in projects related to exploration in glacial terrain, engineering geology, and glacial stratigraphy. His work spans environmental, engineering, and archaeological applications of geology, including assessments of earthquake hazards and landslide risks in glaciated areas.
Recent research activities include investigations into climate change impacts on coastal water resources, portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometry applications, and the integration of First Nation oral histories with geological data. His publications frequently address interdisciplinary topics such as geoarchaeology, geohazard mitigation, and sustainable resource management.
