Bruce Barnhart serves as a Lecturer in the College of Arts and Architecture at Montana State University, teaching comprehensive design curricula spanning creative thinking, typography, packaging, digital interfaces, and design history across introductory to advanced courses.
His research integrates design pedagogy with critical social issues, particularly through the MT 988 Project—a three-week initiative examining art's role in societal expression and addressing Montana's suicide epidemic via student-driven communication campaigns. Collaborations extend to the Montana State Governor’s Office and Yellowstone National Park Service for experiential learning projects.
His methodological framework leverages the five spaces of interaction design (text, visual, physical, time, behavior) to create immersive experiences across diverse contexts—from agricultural branding (Almond Board of California, United States Potato Board) to consumer products (Storck confectionery brands) and aerospace (Thrush Aircraft).
