Bruce A. Stanton is a Professor of Microbiology and Immunology at Geisel School of Medicine, Dartmouth College, and holds the Andrew C. Vail Memorial Professorship. He serves as Director of the Lung Biology Center and mentors students in molecular biology, bioinformatics, and environmental health research.
- B.S., University of Maine (1974)
- M.S. and Ph.D., Yale University (1976, 1980)
- Assistant Professor (1984), Associate Professor (1988), Professor (1993)
Research interests focus on host-pathogen dynamics in cystic fibrosis (CF), emphasizing Pseudomonas aeruginosa biofilm formation and epithelial cell interactions using RNA-seq and proteomics. He also investigates inter-kingdom communication via extracellular vesicles and arsenic's immunotoxic effects on viral/bacterial infections. His work integrates bioinformatics for omics data analysis.
Recent publications span CF pathogenesis, extracellular vesicle miRNA profiling, qPCR methodology, and environmental health impacts. Key themes include host-pathogen cross talk, biofilm modulation, and arsenic-immunity interactions.
Scientific awards include:
- Ussing Award, American Physiological Society (2016)
- Unsung Hero Award, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation (2019)
Mentoring has impacted over 100 postdoctoral fellows, graduate, and undergraduate students. His grants include NIH R01 HL151385-01 (antibiotic sensitivity in CF), NIH R25 GM1297960 (arsenic citizen science), and NIH R25 HG011447 (FAIR bioinformatics).
