Prof. Bruce A. Arndtsen is a James McGill Professor of Chemistry at McGill University, affiliated with the Department of Chemistry within the Faculty of Science. His research focuses on transition metal catalysis, green chemistry, and synthetic methodology. He holds prestigious awards including the Alfred Bader Award in Organic Chemistry (2021) and the William Dawson Scholar designation (2005-2011).
Education: B.A. Chemistry (Carleton College, 1988), Ph.D. Chemistry (Stanford University, 1993), Postdoctoral Fellow (UC Berkeley, 1993-1995).
Research: Expertise in developing efficient synthetic methods via transition metal catalysis, including carbonylation reactions, metal-catalyzed functionalization, and 1,3-dipolar cycloadditions. His lab explores applications in drug cores, polymers, and advanced materials.
Awards: Alfred Bader Award, NSERC Accelerator Grant, DuPont Aid to Education Award.
Teaching: Teaches CHEM 512 (Catalysis) and CHEM 612 (Organometallic Chemistry).
Labs/Teams: Active in the FQRNT Centre in Green Chemistry and NSERC CREATE in Green Chemistry. His lab includes graduate students, postdocs, and undergraduates.
