Brooke N. Macnamara serves as Associate Professor in Purdue University's Department of Psychological Sciences, where she directs the Skill, Learning, and Performance Laboratory. Her research investigates predictors of skilled performance variance through experiential, environmental, cognitive, and non-cognitive lenses, with active recruitment for Fall 2026 graduate admissions.
Her work spans Cognitive and Industrial-Organizational Psychology, focusing on how artificial intelligence impacts skill decay, domain-specific practice effects, and the evidence base for achievement theories. She examines performance dynamics across sports, music, and occupational settings, emphasizing context-dependent interactions between cognitive abilities and environmental pressures.
Major recognitions include:
- Psychonomic Society Early Career Award (2024)
- Psychonomic Society Fellow (2017)
- Association for Psychological Science Rising Star (2017)
Current research is funded by $3.03 million in active grants, including an Army Research Institute project as Principal Investigator ($1.03M) examining cognitive predictors of performance change, and a Co-Investigator role ($2M) studying AI's impact on clinical skill acquisition. She serves on the Psychonomic Society's Communications Committee and maintains an active research profile through Twitter (@BrookeMacnamara).
The Skill, Learning, and Performance Laboratory provides specialized resources for investigating human performance mechanisms, with particular emphasis on transfer of learning and contextual influences on expertise development.
