Distinguished Professor Bronwyn Carlson is the Head of Critical Indigenous Studies at Macquarie University's School of Communication, Society and Culture. She leads the Global Indigenous Futures Research Centre and serves as founding editor of the Journal of Global Indigeneity. A leading scholar in Indigenous digital engagements, her work focuses on social media activism, Indigenous futurisms, and decolonial praxis. She has secured major ARC grants and pioneered research on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander digital practices, including landmark publications like Indigenous People Rise Up: The Global Ascendancy of Social Media Activism.
Her research interrogates colonial commemorations, digital health equity, and technology-facilitated abuse. Notable projects include the CEVAW23.WS04 research stream addressing violence against women and the Indigenous Language Hub initiative. Carlson is a 2020 Fellow of the Australian Academy of the Humanities and recipient of the 2013 Stanner Award.
