Bronwen Konecky is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences at Washington University in St. Louis. She holds a PhD from Brown University and has held postdoctoral positions at Georgia Tech and the University of Colorado Boulder. Her research focuses on tropical climate variability and change, integrating stable isotope hydrology, paleolimnology, and climate modeling to understand past and present climate systems. Key affiliations include the McDonnell Center for the Space Sciences and the Climate and Paleoclimate Laboratory.
Education: PhD in Geological Sciences (Brown University, 2014), ScM from Brown (2010), BA in Environmental Sciences from Barnard College (2005). Professional milestones include the Packard Foundation Fellowship (2019) and Nanne Weber Early Career Award (2019).
Research interests span tropical hydroclimate dynamics, water isotope tracing, and paleoclimate data-model synthesis. Her lab studies ancient and modern climate systems to contextualize anthropogenic change, with fieldwork in Africa, Indonesia, and South America. Recent projects include the Iso2k database for Common Era hydroclimate and the LIBRE drilling project in Guatemala.
Grants include NSF funding for Andean hydroclimate reconstructions and interdisciplinary projects linking climate to prehistoric cultural shifts. Advising includes PhD students working on tropical lake sediments, stable isotopes, and climate modeling.
Awards highlight her contributions to climate science, including expert witness training and recognition for impactful peer review. Her work bridges geoscience with broader societal challenges, emphasizing data synthesis and community-driven research.
