Dr. Brittany Anderson is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Middle, Secondary, and K12 Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Her work focuses on urban education, equity, and the needs of historically marginalized students, particularly Black girls in STEM. She co-develops university-school-community partnerships to address systemic inequities in gifted education and teaching practices.
Her research emphasizes the lived experiences of gifted Black girls and women, challenging traditional gifted identification norms. In 2022, she secured a $1.06 million NSF CAREER grant for research on gifted Black girls in STEM across elementary schools nationwide. Dr. Anderson’s scholarship includes manuscripts, book chapters, and a forthcoming co-edited book (2023).
As a former elementary teacher and first-generation graduate, she integrates innovative, experience-based pedagogy to foster critical thinking and worldview expansion in K-12 and college classrooms. She is actively involved in professional development for urban school teachers in Charlotte and beyond.
