Brittany Allen-Petersen is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at Purdue University, affiliated with the Purdue Institute for Cancer Research and the College of Science. Her lab focuses on understanding the role of Protein Phosphatase 2A (PP2A) in tumor initiation, progression, and therapeutic resistance, particularly in pancreatic and lung cancers. Research areas include PP2A-dependent signaling pathways in cellular plasticity, metabolic plasticity in nutrient-stressed cancer cells, and PP2A regulation of epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) during metastasis.
- Affiliations: Purdue Institute for Cancer Research, Indiana University Pancreatic Cancer Working Group
- Education: PhD in Cell and Developmental Biology (University of Colorado Anschutz), BS in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (University of Michigan)
- Postdoctoral Training: Oregon Health & Science University
Her work employs genetic mouse models, 3D cell culture systems, and molecular biology techniques. Key findings include PP2A’s role in suppressing oncogenic pathways and its context-dependent oncogenic feedback loops via EGFR signaling. Awards include the PanCAN Career Development Award and Concern Foundation Grant.
Lab members include graduate students Claire Pfeffer, Garima Baral, and undergraduates Roe Chianis, among others. Recent projects include developing bioprinted tumor models and exploring PP2A activators as therapeutic strategies. Collaborations extend to institutions like the Medical College of Wisconsin and Indiana University.
