Britta Kallin is an Associate Professor of German and Associate Chair of the School of Modern Languages at Georgia Institute of Technology. She also directs the German Program and serves as faculty mentor. Her academic roles include leadership in the LBAT (Languages for Business and Technology) Germany program and service as President of the AATG-GA (American Association of Teachers of German in Georgia).
Dr. Kallin holds a PhD in German Literature from the University of Cincinnati (2000), following a Staatsexamen from the University of Hamburg (Germany). Her research focuses on contemporary German and Austrian women’s literature, theater, and feminist rewritings of fairy tales. Notable areas include Elfriede Jelinek’s political themes, Marlene Streeruwitz’s postmodern narratives, and critical race studies in German-language plays.
Her research explores intersections of gender, race, national identity, and performance. Recent work examines humor’s role in addressing racism, climate change dialogues in art, and feminist adaptations of classic tales. She has authored a monograph on racism in theater and contributes to journals like Monatshefte, Seminar, and Colloquia Germanica.
Kallin has received awards for teaching excellence, including the 2020 Class of 1934 CIOS Award and 2018 AATG-GA Professor of the Year. Her service includes roles in professional organizations like the International Brecht Society and the Elfriede Jelinek Research Center.
Her courses span German language instruction, cultural studies, and media analysis, including special topics on German post-wall cinema and intercultural communication. She oversees internships and undergraduate research projects in German studies.
