Dr. Britta Acksel is a Scientific Advisor at the Wuppertal Institute, focusing on transformation research strategy development and coordination. She earned her PhD in Cultural Anthropology from Goethe University Frankfurt (2022) under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Gisela Welz and Prof. Dr. Jörg Niewöhner, with a thesis titled "How to Transform? Cultural Anthropological Insights into the Toolbox of Current Sustainability Efforts." Her academic background includes a Master of Arts in Cultural Anthropology and European Ethnology (2013) and a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural and Social Anthropology and Political Science (2010).

She has taught courses at Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen, including seminars on "Governing Infrastructures" and "Sustainability Explorations of the Northern City Center of Essen."
Britta has contributed to projects like Ener/Change (funded by NRW’s Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Protection, and Energy) and Energiewende Ruhr (Mercator Foundation). She is affiliated with academic societies such as the European Association of Social Anthropologists (EASA) and the German Society for Empirical Cultural Studies (DGEKW).
