Britt Hedman is Professor of Photon Science at Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. Her research specializes in developing and applying x-ray absorption and emission spectroscopy techniques using synchrotron radiation to study electronic and structural properties of metal ion active sites in biological and inorganic systems.
Her investigations focus on:
- Nitrogenase enzyme active sites and metal clusters
- Iron-sulfur cluster enzymes
- Blue copper proteins
- Heme-copper oxidases
Methodological innovations include multiple-scattering analysis in EXAFS, polarized single-crystal x-ray absorption spectroscopy, and instrumentation for soft-to-hard energy XAS.
