Brita Bungum is a Professor at the Department of Sociology and Political Science, Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). Her research focuses on family sociology, work-life balance, and welfare state policies with particular emphasis on parental leave systems, gender equity in care work, and immigrant integration. She has authored/co-authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications and policy reports since 2003, including influential works on Norwegian childcare policies, transnational fatherhood, and school democracy.
Key research interests include: 1) Parental leave utilization patterns among immigrant families in Norway, 2) Cross-national comparisons of work-family policies, 3) Gender dynamics in parenting roles, and 4) Policy impacts on family life. Her recent projects examine how Nordic welfare models adapt to globalization and demographic changes.
Notable contributions include the 2024 report on post-LK20 educational democracy reforms and annual contributions to the International Review of Leave Policies. Bungum has presented at major conferences including the Nordic Sociology Association meetings and the European Sociological Association congress.
Her work bridges academic research and policy practice through collaborations with SINTEF, Statistics Norway, and educational institutions. Current projects focus on father involvement in childcare and welfare state modernization strategies.
