Brigitte Roux is a medieval art historian and researcher affiliated with the University of Geneva. She earned her doctorate in 2004 with a thesis on Brunetto Latini's Book of Treasures. Her career includes teaching roles at the University of Geneva (as assistant and senior lecturer) and the University of Neuchâtel (as lecturer). She has conducted research at the Vatican Library, National Library of Paris, and Johns Hopkins University. A key collaborator in the SNSF-funded projects Lactation in History (2013-2016) and Archaeology of Display (1200-1500) (2018-2022), she organized the exhibition Milky Ways. Breastfeeding: Representations and Policies at Geneva.
Her research explores interdisciplinary intersections of
- Medieval iconography and material culture
- Gender studies and lactation symbolism in religious art
- History of collections and display practices
- Manuscript migrations and cross-regional influences
Her recent publications analyze Queer Imaginaries, optical devices in medieval art, and the evolution of Virgin Mary’s lactation imagery. She currently works with e-codices: Virtual Library of Manuscripts in Switzerland, contributing to digital preservation and analysis of medieval codices.
