Bridie Kent is an Honorary Professor at Deakin University's School of Nursing & Midwifery within the Faculty of Health. She also serves as Chair of Nursing at Eastern Health, leading their Nursing and Midwifery Research Unit. Previously, she held roles as Associate Professor at the University of Auckland and Director of Clinical Nursing Research at Auckland District Health Board. Her clinical expertise spans intensive care nursing, quality improvement, and evidence-based healthcare.
Bridie holds a Doctor of Philosophy from the University of Wales and a Bachelor of Science from the University of Surrey. Her research focuses on evidence-based practice, knowledge implementation in clinical settings, and end-of-life care. She has contributed to over 180 publications and led multiple grants addressing healthcare challenges, including patient deterioration, penicillin allergy management, and stroke services.
Her professional activities include serving as Section Editor for Worldview on Evidence-Based Nursing and advising the New Zealand Guidelines Group. Awards include an Honorary Teaching Fellowship (University of Wales, 2001) and Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (UK).
Bridie supervises Honours, Masters, and PhD students in clinically-oriented research and has advised over 5 doctoral and masters candidates. She collaborates with institutions such as the Joanna Briggs Institute and Epworth Healthcare, emphasizing translational research and clinical education.
