Bridget L. Coggins

Bridget L. Coggins is an Associate Professor of Political Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara. Her research focuses on the intersection of domestic conflict and international relations, including secessionism, rebel diplomacy, civil war, terrorism, maritime piracy, illicit trafficking, and refugee dynamics. She holds a Ph.D. from The Ohio State University (2006).

Her major projects include examining state failure's international security consequences through case studies of Somalia, North Korea, Colombia, and Afghanistan. She has authored Power Politics and State Formation in the 20th Century: The Dynamics of Recognition (Cambridge 2014). Her work appears in journals like International Organization, Journal of Conflict Resolution, and Foreign Policy Magazine.

Coggins speaks Spanish, Mandarin, and Korean. She previously taught at Dartmouth College and currently holds office in Ellison Hall 3707, with office hours by appointment.
