Bridget Ford is an Assistant Professor in Biology at the University of the Incarnate Word, with adjunct appointments at UT Health San Antonio. Her research investigates molecular mechanisms of renal injury in diabetic nephropathy, focusing on oxidative stress pathways in podocytes and mesangial cells.
Research focuses:
- Oxidative stress pathways in diabetic kidney disease
- Renal cell apoptosis and fibrosis mechanisms
- Novel therapeutic targets for nephropathy
She maintains active collaborations with UT Health San Antonio's nephrology division and mentors undergraduate researchers in cell culture techniques, molecular biology assays, and disease modeling. Her pedagogical work examines STEM education adaptations during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Notable scientific contributions include identifying roles for NADPH oxidases (Nox4, Duox2) and metalloproteases (ADAM17) in diabetic renal pathology.
