University of California , Santa Barbara (UCSB)معرفی
Brice Erickson is a Professor of Classics at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB), specializing in ancient Greek archaeology with a focus on Archaic and Classical periods (600-400 B.C.E.). He holds a Ph.D. from the University of Texas (2000) and previously taught at Dartmouth College and DePauw University before joining UCSB in 2003. His research emphasizes Cretan archaeology, the Athenian Empire, and material culture's role in understanding ancient economies and identities.
Key projects include studies of post-Minoan Crete, Geometric-to-Hellenistic remains at Lerna, and his current work on an archaeological-economic analysis of the Athenian Empire. His publications include Crete in Transition (2010) and Lerna, the Historical Greek Village (2018). His 2020 article Conceptualizing Southeastern Crete explores regional dynamics through material culture.
Research interests span Cretan pottery in Mediterranean trade networks, religious practices, and the intersection of archaeology with textual histories. His work challenges Athenocentric perspectives by prioritizing archaeological evidence. Erickson also contributes peer reviews for major journals, maintaining active engagement with contemporary scholarship.
He is affiliated with UCSB's Department of Classics and the Lorel Lab, a research center focusing on Mediterranean studies. His office is located in HSSB 4057, with Fall 2018 office hours listed as T 12:30-1:30 and W 5:00-6:00.
