Brian Woods serves as School Head and Professor in the Department of Nuclear Science and Engineering at Oregon State University's College of Engineering, holding the Henry W. and Janice J. Schuette Chair in Nuclear Engineering and Radiation Health Physics.
His academic credentials include:
- Ph.D. in Nuclear Engineering from University of Maryland (2001)
- M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from University of Maryland (1999)
- B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from University of Virginia (1988)
Dr. Woods' research centers on experimental and computational fluid dynamics with specialized focus on nuclear reactor thermal-hydraulics and reactor safety systems. His work addresses critical challenges in thermal fluid behavior for nuclear energy applications, contributing to safety protocols and engineering standards in the field.
Professional recognition includes the 2019 Celebrate Excellence Awards (Loyd Carter Award). He maintains active membership in the American Nuclear Society.
With Oregon State University since 2003, his career spans prior roles as a Nuclear Safety Analyst at Dominion Energy's Innsbrook Technical Center, engineering work within the U.S. Department of Energy's Office of Environmental Restoration, and four years of service as a diver in the U.S. Navy.
