Brian Walker

Professor Brian Walker is an Honorary Research Fellow at the University of Winchester's Centre for Religion, Reconciliation and Peace. He holds a PhD from the University of Winchester (2005) and an MA from the University of Southampton (2001). His research focuses on multi-religious cooperation for justice, reconciliation, and sustainable peace, with a particular emphasis on dialogue between Abrahamic faiths and post-conflict regions like Sierra Leone.

Walker’s work bridges theory and practice, advocating for 'side-by-side' action among faith communities to address systemic violence. He has engaged with religious leaders across Europe, Africa, Asia, and the Americas, fostering partnerships with organizations like Religions for Peace International and St Ethelburga’s Centre.

His publications explore themes such as interfaith spirituality, transformative reconciliation, and peacebuilding strategies. Key works include Multi-religious Action for Reconciliation and Peace (2010) and From Dialogue to Cooperative Action (2008). His research emphasizes actionable frameworks for transitioning from conflict to peace through collaborative faith-based initiatives.

As founding Director of the Winchester Centre, he spearheaded initiatives like the 2008 European Strategic Plan for Religions for Peace. His advisory roles include membership in the Church of England General Synod and governance at Religions for Peace Europe.

Walker’s labs/teams include the Centre for Religion, Reconciliation and Peace, which partners with global institutions to design faith-based peace interventions. Current work focuses on post-violence reconciliation in conflict zones, leveraging interfaith networks for sustainable societal repair.
