Brian Tochterman is an Associate Professor and Department Chair of the Social Sciences Department at the now-closed Northland College. His academic work focuses on American metropolitan growth, urban planning, and the interplay between cultural narratives and political economy in cities. He teaches courses such as Sustainable Community Development and leads a triennial travel course, 'The Just City in Practice,' exploring urban sustainability in northern European cities.

Teaching & Community Engagement: Courses include 'Sustainable Community Planning' and 'Advanced Community Planning Studio,' where students engage directly with regional challenges. His travel course juxtaposes urban sustainability strategies in cities like Amsterdam, Copenhagen, and Hamburg. Collaborations with local partners highlight his commitment to community-driven research and planning.
