Brian Sweis

Brian Sweis, MD, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in both Psychiatry and Neuroscience at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. He serves as Director of Neuroeconomics within the Centers for Affective Neuroscience and Computational Psychiatry, and Assistant Training Director for Research in the Psychiatry Residency Program. His work integrates neuroeconomics and circuit neuroscience to study decision-making processes in psychiatric disorders. Dr. Sweis leads the Sweis Lab, focusing on the neurobiological underpinnings of complex decisions and their implications for mental health.

Education: BS/BA (Bio/Psych majors, Neuro/Phil minors) from Loyola University Chicago; MD/PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Minnesota Medical School; Psychiatry residency with Chief Resident status at Mount Sinai.

Research Interests: Decision neuroscience, computational psychiatry, translational neuroeconomics, neuromodulation techniques, and cross-species studies to bridge animal models and human applications. His lab investigates how affective states and cognitive biases influence decision-making in disorders like mood and substance use disorders.
