معرفی
Brian Stewart is Professor of High Voltage Engineering in the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, Scotland, UK. He is actively involved in research and leadership, serving as Co-academic lead for the Asset Management theme at Strathclyde's Power Network Demonstration Centre (PNDC). He is an active member of the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society (DEIS), having held leadership roles including President (2022–2023) and Past President (2024), and maintains professional status as CEng, MIET, and MIEEE.
His research focuses on high voltage engineering with key interests in electrical condition monitoring, partial discharge, insulation diagnostics, HV asset management, and data analytics. He investigates systems such as power transformers, power cables, HVDC, GIS, and power quality in rail systems. His work integrates advanced data analytics and communication systems into health monitoring frameworks for electrical infrastructure.
The recent publications highlight a strong trend in high-voltage diagnostics, power system modeling, and metrology. Topics span transformer and cable insulation, uncertainty quantification in electrical measurements, rail electrification, and data-driven asset management. The research bridges theoretical modeling with practical applications in smart grids and transportation infrastructure.

Professor Stewart actively supervises research and advises students, with recent involvement in four supervised works. He leads and contributes to numerous research projects, including EU-funded initiatives such as 'Support for standardisation of sample-by-sample waveform uncertainty computation' and 'Metrology for electric vehicle charging systems (Met4EVCS)', often in collaboration with industry partners like NGET and SSEN. His work is supported by significant grants from Horizon Europe and H2020, focusing on power grid resilience, asset data analytics, and next-generation monitoring technologies.
He is affiliated with the Power Network Demonstration Centre (PNDC) at Strathclyde, where he contributes to the development of data analytic health monitoring frameworks for transformers and power cables. His research team collaborates internationally on projects involving high-voltage diagnostics, smart grid technologies, and sustainable energy systems.
