Professor Brian Sheppard is a prominent legal scholar at Seton Hall University School of Law, where he currently holds the rank of Professor and previously served as Associate Dean (2010–2015). His interdisciplinary work bridges legal philosophy, behavioral psychology, and technology, with a focus on how legal language influences decision-making processes. He earned his S.J.D. in Experimental Jurisprudence from Harvard Law School (2012), following clerkships at the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court and U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
Research interests include the impact of AI on medical malpractice standards (particularly in radiology), legal ethics, and the empirical study of social inequality. He co-founded the Brown University Radiology, Psychology & Law Lab and contributed to the 2011 Honduran Truth Commission report. His scholarship appears in top-tier journals like the Harvard Law Review and Yale Law Journal, with recent emphasis on algorithmic liability and legal terminology's psychological effects.
Teaching focuses on Torts, Professional Responsibility, and Entertainment Law (online/in-person). He has advised NGOs like the Last Resort Exoneration Project, aiding wrongful conviction cases such as Sheldon Thomas' release in 2023.
