Brian P. Palmiter is a Postdoctoral Fellow in Civil Discourse at the Edmond & Lily Safra Center for Ethics and an Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School of Government. He earned his doctorate in political theory from Harvard University in 2024 and holds a B.A. in Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy from Michigan State University's James Madison College.

His research explores the intersection of political ethics and democratic theory, focusing on the morality of rule compliance, procedural justice, and institutional legitimacy. He investigates how agents navigate rules, including strategies like loophole exploitation or procedural manipulation, and develops frameworks for ethical political conduct and robust institutional design.
Beyond research, he coordinates the Fellowship in Values Engagement at Harvard's Safra Center for Ethics and coaches the university's Ethics Bowl team. Previously, he worked in science policy at the American Association for the Advancement of Science and taught high school English through Teach for America.
