Dr. Brian McBurnett is a Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at the University of the Incarnate Word (UIW). He holds a Ph.D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Texas-Austin (1998) and a B.S. in Chemistry from Texas A&M University (1994). His research bridges chemistry with mathematics and the arts, notably through a Science of Art course integrating art history and scientific analysis. He served as Department Chair at UIW from 2006–2010 and was a CEIS Fulbright Scholar at Pontificia Universidade Catolica do Rio de Janeiro in 2012.
His research focuses on inorganic materials, chemical education, and interdisciplinary science. Notable projects include studies on Piper Auritum's chemical composition and analyses of Ni-Si thin films. He has received the CEIS Fulbright Fellowship and an NIH Extramural Associate Research Development Award ($496,800). Dr. McBurnett has advised undergraduate research and contributed to grants enhancing STEM education for underrepresented minorities.
He teaches courses such as Inorganic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry, and General Chemistry. His work includes collaborations on chemical education initiatives and international partnerships, such as establishing a sister school program with Brazilian institutions.
