Brian Levine is a Distinguished Professor and Director of the Cybersecurity Institute at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He joined the Manning College of Information and Computer Sciences (CICS) in 1999, specializing in network security, privacy, and forensics, particularly in combating child exploitation. His work has led to tools like RoundUp, used globally to rescue hundreds of children from abuse. He holds a PhD in Computer Engineering from UC Santa Cruz and has been recognized with awards like the ACM Fellow (2020) and the IEEE INFOCOM Test of Time Award (2017).
Key research areas include child sexual exploitation prevention, blockchain security, and peer-to-peer networks. He has published over 90 papers, cited 19,000+ times, and secured $12M+ in grants from NSF, DOJ, and others. His leadership roles include Co-Director of the UMass Data Core and founding director of the Cybersecurity Institute.
Teaching highlights include courses on machine learning applied to security and forensics.
