Brian L. Owsley serves as an Associate Professor of Law at the University of North Texas at Dallas College of Law, where he has taught since 2015. His instruction covers Advanced Federal Criminal, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, Federal Criminal Procedure, First Amendment, Fourth Amendment & Electronic Surveillance, and Torts.
He earned his law degree from Columbia University School of Law as a Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar and Executive Editor of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review, followed by a master's in international affairs from Columbia's School of International and Public Affairs.
Professor Owsley's scholarly focus centers on Criminal Law and Constitutional Law, with specialized expertise in Fourth Amendment jurisprudence and electronic surveillance. His research has been featured in leading publications including the Akron Law Review, Hastings Law Journal, and West Virginia Law Review, reflecting his commitment to constitutional criminal procedure.
His professional distinctions include:

Prior to academia, Professor Owsley maintained an extensive judicial and legal practice career, serving as a United States Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Texas from 2005-2013 and contributing to organizations including the Southern Poverty Law Center and the Department of Justice.
