Brian Kirby

Prof Brian Kirby serves as Deputy Head of School (Programmes Innovation) and Associate Professor of Pharmacology at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI), School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. He holds an adjunct professorship at Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) and has led clinical pharmacology initiatives in Malaysia. His research focuses on neuropharmacology, drug delivery, mental health, and medical education. He earned a PhD in Neuropharmacology from Trinity College Dublin and completed postdoctoral research at the University of Oxford.

Education highlights include a BSc in Pharmacy (Trinity College Dublin), PhD in Neuropharmacology (Trinity College Dublin), and postgraduate diplomas in Health Professions Education (RCSI) and Leadership in Medicine (RCSI).

Research interests span drug delivery systems, neurological disorders, and educational innovations. Recent work includes studies on blood-brain barrier models, neuroinfectious diseases, and pandemic-era medical education. He leads the StAR International PhD Programme (2023–2027) and collaborates globally on neuropharmacology and nanomedicine. Professional roles include membership in the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland Council.
