Brian Kench is the Dean and tenured Professor of Economics at the AACSB-accredited Pompea College of Business, University of New Haven. He holds a Ph.D. in Economics (University of Connecticut, 2000), M.A. (same institution, 1997), and B.A. (Framingham State University, 1994). His expertise spans behavioral/experimental economics, organization economics, and economic policy analysis.
As Dean since 2015, he has repositioned the business school as a leader in STEM-designated programs (65% student enrollment in STEM), launched fast-track 3+1 dual-degree programs (89% graduation rate), and pioneered hands-on initiatives like the Pompea Business Plan Expo and ESG-focused Gaia Fund. He also founded the university's interdisciplinary entrepreneurship department and School of Health Sciences, instrumental in fostering university-wide collaboration through the Interdisciplinary Collaborative.
His research focuses on peer effects in education, transaction cost economics, and public goods experiments. He has authored/co-authored over 20 peer-reviewed articles and received multiple awards, including Teaching Excellence (2009, 2012) and Researcher of the Year (2008) at the University of Tampa.
Prof. Kench has held leadership roles at the University of Tampa (2002–2015), Bentley University, and the University of New Hampshire. He frequently advises on economic damages, unemployment, and policy, contributing expert commentary to media outlets like Forbes, Newsweek, and The Wall Street Journal.
