Brian James Baer is a Professor of Russian and Translation Studies at Kent State University, located in the Department of Modern & Classical Language Studies. He holds significant editorial roles as founding editor of Translation and Interpreting Studies and co-editor of book series such as Literatures, Cultures, Translation and Translation Studies in Translation. His research focuses on translation history, pedagogy, and queer theory, with notable publications including Queer Theory and Translation Studies: Language, Politics, Desire and Translation and the Making of Modern Russian Literature. Baer also serves as President of the American Translation and Interpreting Studies Association and contributes to the international advisory board of the Mona Baker Centre for Translation Studies at Shanghai International Studies University.
