Brian J. White, PhD, is a Professor of English and Director of the Honors Program at Graceland University. He holds a BA in Theatre from Graceland University, an MA in English from Utah State University, and a PhD in English from the University of North Dakota. His academic work integrates teaching, research, and experiential learning.
Dr. White’s research interests span literature, film, writing pedagogy, cultural studies, and critical theory. He describes his approach as a “thought experiment” style, blending interdisciplinary perspectives from his diverse educational background in Theatre, British/Canadian Studies, and English.
He has co-led experiential educational seminars for the National Collegiate Honors Council in national parks like Sequoia, Glacier, and Great Basin, merging outdoor education with academic exploration. These initiatives reflect his passion for connecting environmental stewardship with intellectual pursuits.
Though no specific grants or awards are noted, his administrative leadership in the Honors Program and field-based seminars underscores his commitment to innovative education. Outside academia, he enjoys furniture-making, coffee roasting, and mountain biking in the Rocky Mountains.
