Brian Hudson is a Guest Professor at Karlstad University in Sweden, affiliated with the ROSE research group ('Research on Subject-Specific Education'). Previously, he served as Emeritus Professor of Education and Head of the School of Education and Social Work (2012–2016) at the University of Sussex. He holds an adjunct role as Associate Editor of the Journal of Curriculum Studies and is a Fellow of the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications.
His research focuses on epistemic quality, powerful knowledge in education, and teacher education policy. Key interests include curriculum design, subject-specific pedagogy, and cross-cultural educational practices. Hudson has coordinated the KOSS Network, a Swedish Research Council-funded initiative (2019–2023) investigating knowledge and quality across school subjects and teacher education.
Publications emphasize transformative educational policies, equitable access to quality education, and interdisciplinary didactics. His work spans mathematics education, language learning, and physical education in diverse national contexts. Awards include the UK National Teaching Fellowship (2004) and honorary membership in EERA Network 27 (2016).
Grants and collaborations include the KOSS Network and prior leadership in the WERA Network on Didactics. He actively engages with international educational reforms and teacher training innovation.
